Bringing Everyday Innovation to ISPI’s 2014 International Conference
Recently, Terry Farmer and I had the pleasure of participating in the 2014 International Society for Performance Improvement (ISPI) Conference. I will share, up front, that I have a strong appreciation for ISPI, and I’ve presented at various ISPI conferences over the years. The first time I presented at an ISPI Conference was in San Francisco all the way back in 2001, and the day after my presentation, while walking across the magnificent Golden Gate Bridge, I proposed to my best friend, now wife of 12 years. I was also very fortunate to have had opportunities throughout my career to work closely with Geary Rummler, a founding father of Human Performance Technology, a past President of ISPI, a great mind and man.
Despite my sentimental bias, I can say, objectively, that the ISPI International Conference is always a great opportunity for learning, sharing and networking with a very talented and diverse collection of people. This year’s conference was no exception, and included Dr. Tracey Wilen-Daugenti, author and thought leader on the impact of technology on society, work and education, Aubrey Daniels, author and thought leader on leadership and workplace optimization, David Maxfield, author and business social scientist, Jonathan Levine, filmmaker, writer and director, and Pat Hoban-Moore, HUD Director, just to provide a few examples of the diverse perspectives that contributed to the 2014 ISPI Conference experience. And I really enjoyed the PechaKucha sessions highlighted by the dynamic Sivasailam “Thiagi” Thiagarajan (PechaKucha is an innovative, fast-paced, presentation method created by Tokyo-based, Mark Dytham and Astrid Klein. YouTube has some excellent examples).
Terry and I facilitated a session, "Building Capabilities for Everyday Innovation." Our session had a great turnout with a very talented and engaged group of participants. We sincerely appreciate all of the enthusiasm and positive feedback during and following our session and the conference. The 2014 ISPI Conference connected us with a lot of wonderful and talented people from a broad range of organizations, industries and countries. And we look forward to sustaining the relationships, learning and Everyday Innovation.
In short, great conference, great people, great learning!
